Preamble

As a volunteer with the SAFE Research Institute, I recognize that the Institute's standing with the public depends entirely upon our reputation for scientific accuracy, non-partisan research, and professional integrity. To uphold the mission of the Science and Freedom for Everyone Foundation, I agree to the following standards:

1. Commitment to Scientific Integrity
  • Evidence-Based Communication: I agree to base all research, testimony, and communications on the "SAFE Standard" — relying on peer-reviewed data and the prevailing scientific consensus.
  • Accuracy: I will not knowingly misrepresent scientific data, cherry-pick statistics, or use inflammatory rhetoric that undermines the credibility of the organization.
  • The Peer-Review Process: I understand that all "Model Evidence Briefs" must undergo SAFE's internal review process before being released publicly. I will not distribute draft versions as an official SAFE policy.
2. Confidentiality & Intellectual Property
  • Internal Materials: I will maintain the confidentiality of SAFE's internal research trackers, working documents, and pre-publication research.
  • Proprietary Models: I acknowledge that the "Model Policy Analysis" frameworks and templates developed by SAFE are the intellectual property of the organization.
  • Non-Disclosure: I will not share internal communications (emails, Slack/Signal messages, or meeting minutes, etc.) with outside parties, including the media or external organizations, without express written consent.
  • Sensitive Information: All personal, private, and sensitive information relating to employees — including but not limited to names, contact details, identification numbers, health information, and internal records — must be treated as strictly confidential.
3. Nonpartisanship & Representation
  • Issue vs. Party: I understand that SAFE is a non-partisan research and educational organization. I will not use SAFE's resources, name, or my title within the organization to endorse political candidates or engage in partisan campaigning.
  • Clarification of Role: When speaking in a personal capacity or on behalf of another organization, I will clearly state that my views are my own and do not necessarily represent the official position of SAFE.
  • Model Talking Points: To ensure a consistent national message, I agree to adhere to Board-approved talking points when representing SAFE in an official capacity (e.g., legislative testimony, media interviews).
4. Conflict of Interest
  • Disclosure: I will promptly disclose to SAFE leadership any professional or financial affiliations that may present a conflict of interest regarding specific public health legislation.
  • Integrity of Influence: I will not use my position within SAFE to advance the private financial interests of myself, my employer, or any client.
5. Professional Conduct
  • Civil Engagement: In all interactions with public officials, the general public, and professional peers, I will maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  • Digital Responsibility: I will refrain from engaging in online harassment or spreading unverified information on social media platforms, recognizing that my digital footprint reflects on the SAFE organization.
  • This information and all associated SAFE assets — including but not limited to logos, templates, research data, and digital graphics — may not be shared, disclosed, distributed, accessed, or digitally altered by unauthorized individuals or third parties without explicit written permission. Any modification or unauthorized use of SAFE assets is strictly prohibited to ensure the integrity of our scientific messaging and nonpartisan brand.
6. At-Will Participation & Termination
  • Voluntary Relationship: I acknowledge that my participation in SAFE is at-will. Either I or SAFE may terminate this relationship at any time, with or without cause.
  • Survival of Confidentiality: My obligation to maintain the confidentiality of SAFE's internal strategies and proprietary data remains in effect even after my volunteer service ends.
